I recently completed this illustration. My challenge to myself was to recreate this image based off of a picture I found using only shape layers and layer effects. I wanted to see if I could do it, and the end result is an (almost) infinitely scaleable image. 44 shape layers, no pixel layers, no smart objects.
Back in high school I tried to get into 3D by making LEGO renderings in Bryce. I’ve currently been attempting to teach myself (with the help of YouTube) Cinema 4D, and I figured I should probably start with LEGO again. It’s been a lot of fun to play with a more powerful program, and to know a little more about photography and lighting than I did before. Here’s my first Cinema 4D model, I’ll post more as I finish and learn more.
Surprisingly few characters actually work for this style, here are a few that do. I imagine there are others, but they tend to get pretty obscure. Unfortunately Han and Luke look very generic, and Chewie really does look like a walking carpet.
